Build like a professional! This manual walks you through the steps required to build a professional, timber frame garden building. Tools required are listed in section 4. All materials have been listed with specification and sizes, which can be purchased from your local builders merchant. Example price (correct at date of publish) is shown in section 3. All materials used in the construction are standard, off the shelf and low cost.
Every single panel, stud, rafter, timber and trim has a very simple to follow drawing. We’ve broken down the complete build into small, easy to follow manageable steps. Instructional videos coming soon!
You have the choice to install insulation up to 75mm thick giving 0.018W/mK thermal conductivity, down to 20mm thick giving thermal conductivity of 1.10W/mK, or you can build without any insulation. The double-glazed UPVC window and door are standard sizes, which can be purchased off the shelf at very low cost.
We’ve specified a maintenance free 50-year life EPDM roof cover kit from Skyguard, which is extremely high quality. If you are on a budget, you can use the more traditional felt sheet or felt shingles.
External cladding doesn’t have to be the timber we’ve used here. You can use a higher quality coloured composite or UPVC for zero maintenance. Alternatively, you can go for lower cost cladding. You can still use the dimensions and cutting list in this manual regardless of which way you want to go.
